CUSTODIAN

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Custodian performs a variety of routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort in cleaning and caring for an assigned area in buildings and adjacent grounds and sidewalks.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect and remove all trash from waste baskets and replace liners.

  • Perform recycling efforts throughout the facility which may include gathering all recyclables and organizing and maintaining recycling areas. 

  • Dust, damp mop, dry buff and restore appropriate floor surfaces as instructed.

  • Dust all office furniture, chairs, desks, tables, file cabinets, pictures, windowsills, wall ledges, and remove finger marks from painted wall partitions within hand high reach.

  • Clean breakroom daily, including tables, chairs, stove, countertops, and microwaves.

  • Sweep & mop breakroom floor.

  • Clean glass entrance doors and reception window.

  • Vacuum all carpeted areas.

  • Clean all lavatory areas by washing, sanitizing, and drying all bowls, seats, and washbasins, replacing soap, toweling and toilet tissue. As needed, damp wipe exterior of waste cans and dispensing units, wash booth partitions and ledges in all restrooms, replace urinal blocks as needed.

  • Wipe mirrors and windows.

  • Remove obvious dust, dirt, and debris.

  • Help with snow removal and salting.

  • Maintain outer premises by watering plants and cleaning entrances.

  • Participates in identifying process improvements and job efficiency opportunities for safety, quality, customer satisfaction and/or recycling efforts.

  • Undertake occasional lifting heavy items, moving chairs, etc.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years’ custodial experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Must be capable of physical demands of the job, such as but not limited to constant standing, walking, stooping, and lifting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to lift to seventy-five pounds when required.

  • Ability to work in cold and hot weather conditions.

  • Attention to detail and conscientiousness.

  • Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.

  • Commitment to cleanliness.

  • Must be self-driven.

  • Good time management skills required.

  • Ability to work effectively with team members.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good customer service skills.

Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances required:

  • Floor buffer

  • Floor waxer

  • Floor stripper

  • Floor scrubber  

Monday – Friday | 6:30 am – 3:00 pm | $16.50-$17.50 per hour
